You know what frosts my flakes?
Robots accusing other robots of writing things humans actually wrote.
I am seeing this more and more on social media. A notification suddenly appears under a post declaring it was “Made with AI.”
So, I did what any tech-savvy geezer would do. I asked AI what that meant.
Apparently, images created by artificial intelligence can contain embedded information identifying them as AI-generated. The robots scouring social media detect those signals and automatically slap a label on the content.
Who knew?
But here’s where things get ridiculous. Images edited with AI can sometimes trigger labels, too.
So, you could write every single word of a post yourself, then attach a real photograph that was touched up using AI. Suddenly, a robot may put an AI label on the entire content.
That’s just wrong!
If I write a 27-word post and include a family photo that was edited with AI to remove red eyes, people could see that label and assume the whole thing was generated by artificial intelligence.
Why aren’t these supposedly intelligent robots smart enough to say, “This image was created with AI” or “This image was edited using AI?”
Instead, they slap a vague AI label on the entire content and leave people wondering what’s real.
Granted, there is so much fakery on social media today that it is becoming increasingly difficult to determine what is authentic and what is manufactured.
I’m Grandpa Grumpy. Why are social media platforms fueling even more distrust by using robots to slap vague AI labels on content humans actually created?
